Born in West Brighton, Mr. Roberts lived in Bulls Head before moving to Grymes Hill. He was a graduate of McKee High School, and worked as a roofer, owning several companies on Staten Island before retiring in the early 1990s.
Mr. Roberts was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines, New Guinea and Australia as a machinist’s mate third class from 1942 to 1945. He was a part of the Seabees, a group that handled construction.
Mr. Roberts was a member of the United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers, Local Union No. 8. Mr. Roberts loved going to the horse racetrack, OTB and Atlantic City. He also enjoyed trips to the Jersey Shore. Mr. Roberts loved sports and was a fan of the Yankees and Giants. He enjoyed listening to WFAN sports radio. Family members said he lived life to the fullest.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Rosalie Colagiacomi; a daughter, Judy Leung, and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Harmon Home for Funerals, West Brighton, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Sylvester’s R.C. Church, Concord. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
