Business owner, 'outstanding Dad...shared his love for the beach' John Christopher Maceda, 63, of Staten Island, NY, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on March 9th, 2022. John was everyone's go-to person for advice or a laugh when one was needed, and was an outstanding dad not only to his children, but also for countless others throughout his life. He innately knew just the right words to let someone know he truly cared, whether he'd known them for five minutes or fifty years. He will be deeply missed. John was born June 1st, 1958 to Robert and Marguerite "Peggy" Maceda in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, where he spent the first 25 years of his life, graduating from St. Anselm and Bishop Ford. In 1979 he met the love of his life Nancy and from the first moment she knew they would be married. They wed in 1982, moving one year later to the North Shore of Staten Island, where they raised their three children John, Samantha and Caroline, and shared a life filled with wonderful friends and lots of laughter. For over forty years, John could be seen trucking around Brooklyn with his brother and best friend Steven, building a successful business with Maceda Bros. Roofing Company and eventually opening a bar together, the Double Nickel Saloon. John passionately shared his love for the beach, beginning with sun-filled days in Breezy Point, then seasons by the water at Lake Adventure in PA, and more recently time spent in Sea Bright, NJ. Though their time was cut far too short, John's family is grateful for the incredible trips to Florida and beyond that they enjoyed with him and the treasured memories of all the time spent together. In recent years, John was a proud and devoted Pop Pops to grandchildren Crew and Lennon. John is survived by his wife Nancy (ne Johansson) and their children John (Nell Casey) Maceda, Samantha (Jarod) Coppolo, and Caroline Maceda; his grandchildren Crew and Lennon Coppolo; his siblings Bob (Barbara) Maceda, Catherine Maceda, and Steven (Mary) Maceda; his mother-in-law Mildred Johansson; his sister-in-law Lisa Johansson; many cherished nieces and nephews, whom John loved like his own children; and lastly, his loyal friend Addie. Visitations will be at Harmon Funeral Home (571 Forest Avenue, Staten Island, NY) on Monday, March 14th from 1-3pm and 6-8pm. The Committal Service will take place at Greenwood Cemetery (500 25th Street, Brooklyn, NY) on Tuesday, March 15th from 12-12:30pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Staaten (697 Forest Avenue, Staten Island, NY) on Tuesday, March 15th from 4-7pm; all are welcome and encouraged to attend and share stories of John's life.
