Unofficial mayor of West Brighton; had a kind heart and a gentle soul
John "Johnny" Grube, a lifelong West Brighton resident, died on Nov. 17, 2018. He was 61 years old.
Born on Staten Island on Feb. 6, 1957, Johnny was the son of Dolores and Martin Grube.
He was known as the unofficial "Mayor" of West Brighton, and was greeted by many as he strolled along Forest Ave. But nothing would surpass his love for Monsignor Farrell High School. He was loved by all of the students and staff alike and loved them all as well.
Johnny had a kind heart and gentle soul and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his siblings, Joan Althoff (Bob), Mary Buerkle (Dan), Martin Grube, and Robert Grube (Sharen); his nieces and nephews, Bobby Althoff (Kaitlyn), Tom Althoff (Kelly),Tim Althoff (Chelsea), Amanda Buerkle, Danielle Buerkle, Christopher Buerkle, Kyle Buerkle, Emily Grube, and Julie Grube, and his great-nephews and niece, Zachary Althoff, Madelyn Althoff, and Thomas Althoff. Johnny is remembered by his many cousins, especially Mark DeCristoforo, and many dear friends, especially the McVey and Granello Families and the residents and staff at Crossroads.
Friends will be received at Harmon Funeral Home on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass is on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Msgr. Farrell High School gym.
