John was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Gertrude Costello, his beloved wife, Patricia (Donovan), and his three siblings, Raymond, Catsy and Gloria. He is survived by his three children, Linda, John and James. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Paul, Mark, Kristen, Jonathan and Claire, and great grandchildren, Salvatore, Paul, Mark, Josie, John, Lia, Sienna, Willow and Casey.
John grew up in Brooklyn, where he was an exceptional baseball player in his youth. He married his wife, Patricia (Donovan) in 1954 and they raised their three children in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. John and Patricia moved to Staten Island in 1987.
John was an ironworker for Local Union 40 for more than 40 years. In that time, he worked on the construction of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and the World Trade Center Twin Towers.
John and Patricia were inseparable. They enjoyed taking walks together and going to Atlantic City as their time allowed.
John will be greatly missed by his family and those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
