John Arnone, age 92, of Meiers Corners, a long-time resident of Staten Island, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on May 14, 2021.
John was born in Manhattan to the late Jennie and Concetto Arnone, who came through Ellis Island as hard-working immigrants. They later moved to New Dorp, Staten Island where he attended McKee High School and was made an Electrical Shop Mentor. There he met his wife Angie and were high school sweethearts.
After graduation, Mr. Arnone embarked on a long and prosperous career as an electrician, spanning more than 50 years. A member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 3, he worked as an electrical foreman for various contractors, and retired in l991 as a foreman with Kleinberg Electric in Manhattan. He was also a member of the Staten Island Electrical Club and the Staten Island Retirees of the Electrical Union Local 3, and the Staten Island Baseball Old Timers Association.
John married the former Angelina Gurrieri, (predeceased 4/19/20), a Sunnyside native, and said their “I do’s” on April 16th, 1950, at St. Rita’s R.C Church, Meiers Corners. They celebrated 70 years of marriage together and cherished their enduring love, treasured life’s most precious moments and shared special family bonds. When asked how they accomplished that long and happy union, he’d tell you, "Always respect one another, never go to bed mad and when you raise a family of five, make sure you support each other."
He is fondly remembered for providing loving examples of family values and opportunities to teach life’s lessons - his endless love, patience and guidance was evident in all of his actions.
John also loved sports, especially being a Yankees fan of the great Joe DiMaggio and was himself very active in sport leagues in the l940s and l950s. He enjoyed coaching his sons’ Little League teams and participating in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's games and activities.
John is survived by his devoted children, Jeanette and George Pecoraro
of Willowbrook, John and Paula Arnone of Manalapan, N.J.,
Rosanne and Dr. Ronald Kipp of Castleton Corners, Linda and Anthony Ferrara
of Ballston Spa, NY and Steven and Patricia Arnone of Great Kills, 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at Casey Funeral Home, Slosson Avenue and internment will be at Ocean View Cemetery. "This Mass will be a funeral mass for John as well as a memorial mass for his loving wife Angelina."
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to any charity of your choice.
"The Magic of a Father's Touch"
There's magic in a father's touch, And sunshine in his smile There's love in everything he does To make our lives worthwhile We can find both hope and courage Just by looking in his eyes His laughter is a source of joy, His words are warm and wise There is a kindness and compassion To be found in his embrace And we see the light of Heaven Shining from father's face.
