Born Joan Bolen in Bayonne, Mrs. Viaud worked as a waitress in Tom's Restaurant, an upscale dining spot in North Bergen, N.J.
In 1951, she wed Edward Viaud.
She moved in 1987 to Westerleigh and in 1998 to Castleton Corners.
Seven years ago, Mrs. Viaud converted to Catholicism and received the sacraments in St. Teresa's R.C. Church, Castleton Corners, for which she had a great affinity.
"Our mother was very strong and independent and was very conscious of the wonderful family in which she was reared and would emphasize the fact that she was brought up like a lady," said Michelle R. Viaud and Deborah L. Galvin.
Mrs. Viaud was the last surviving sibling in her family.
In her leisure hours, Mrs. Viaud enjoyed playing pokeno and bingo with the women in her building.
Edward, her husband of 35 years, died in 1986.
In addition to her daughters, Michelle and Deborah, Mrs. Viaud is survived by three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10:45 a.m. in St. Teresa's Church. Burial will follow in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, N.J.
