STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Joan Marini, 80, of Eltingville, a retired Board of Education employee who loved spending time with her family, died Wednesday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay.
Born Joan Durning in Brooklyn, she came to Eltingville in the early 1960s.
Mrs. Marini worked for the former New York City Board of Education for about 35 years before retiring.
She was a member of the Richmond AARP chapter, and the Crafty Ladies group at St. Clare's R.C. Church, Great Kills, where she was a parishioner.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, and lived for her grandchildren, her family said. Known affectionately as Mom-Mom by her grandchildren, Mrs. Marini especially loved taking vacations with them to the Jersey Shore.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Vincent A. Marini; her son, Vincent; her daughter, Christine Siciliano; her brother, George Durning, and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills, with a mass at 9:45 a.m. in St. Clare's Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
