On Saturday, July 4th, 2020 Mrs. Joan DiStadio, nee Coccaro, of Westerleigh, died peacefully in her home. She was 85 years old. Born in 1935 in Staten Island, NY, she was the fifth child of the late John and Josephine Coccaro. She was the only one of five children born stateside, with the older four siblings having been born in the Campobasso Province of Italy.
She was preceded in death by her husband Salvatore, and her three sisters and one brother. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law; Joanne and William Stranges of Castleton Corners, and their son Cain of Jersey City.
Joan will always be fondly remembered as a loving grandmother, doting on her grandchild Cain, as he grew from child to man. She loved her daily scratch-offs, and passed her cooking and baking skills to her daughter, Joanne.
Joan was a sensitive but strong woman, judiciously steering her family through hard times, and celebrating quietly - not really - during times of great joy.
Joan was a giver, and together with her husband, Sal, gave back to her family and community through their magnanimous sharing and their work with Juvenile Diabetes Research.
She will be missed.
Services and visitation will be July 9th, 10am to 12 noon, at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314. Interment follows at Moravian Cemetery, 2205 Richmond Rd, Staten Island, NY 10306.
May she be remembered always as a happy, giving, cheerful, smart and loving person.
Twenty-Third Psalm
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;
He leadeth me beside the still waters. He
restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the
paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of
the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for
Thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they
comfort me. Thou preparest a table before
me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou
anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth
over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow
me all the days of my life: and I shall dwell
in the house of the Lord forever.
