Henry David Melfi, age 75 passed on Thursday, February 24th at Staten Island University Hospital North with his family at his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry “Rick” Melfi & Mary News Melfi. He grew up in Meiers Corners and later moved to New Springville. He was a retired sanitation police officer where he was employed for over 20 years. As an avid baseball player, he coached his son and daughter at West Shore Little League. He then gave back to the community and continued coaching baseball at Mid Island Little League, Port Richmond High School, and Moore Catholic High School. His proudest moments were watching his grandsons play baseball and his granddaughter sing. He was a devout New York Yankee and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was an antique car enthusiast winning many awards with his 1936 Chevy Standard and 1950 Ford. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jeanette Cocozziello Melfi and his son, Craig Melfi and daughter in law Christine & daughter, Danielle Melfi Berman & son in law Marc. He is survived by his 6 grandchildren, David, Olivia, Michael, & Joseph Melfi and Nicholas and Rick Berman. Also,he is survived by his sisters, Anne Marie Ryan and Claire Grisanti and brother Kevin C. Melfi & sister in law, Pauline Melfi. He is also survived by his brother in laws Vincent and Anthony Cocozziello, 2 godsons, many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and one great great niece.
