Lifelong Staten Islander took great pride in her home and family
Surrounded by her family, 103-year-old Frances Alfano passed away peacefully on December 7, 2020 in her West Brighton home. Mrs. Alfano, born Frances Valentino, was born on Glen Avenue, New Brighton, July 1, 1917. She was one of 8 children born to Salvatrice and Vincenzo Valentino.
During World War II, Mrs. Alfano was employed at Halloran Hospital in Willowbrook, the current site of the College of Staten Island. Years later, she was able to see her grandson Matthew McGowan graduate from the College in 2018.
Frances took pride in being a homemaker. While living in the Mariners Harbor projects in the 1950's to 1970's she was often cited by the project management staff as having one of the cleanest apartments in the projects.
Married in 1950 to Vincent Alfano, she and her husband raised three children, Salvatore Alfano, currently residing in Centerville, VA, Ann McGowan and Vincent Alfano who currently live on Staten Island. Mr. Alfano passed away in 1988.
In addition to her children, Mrs. Alfano is survived by grandchildren Marc Alfano, Melissa Alfano-Bezet and her husband Alan, Matthew McGowan, and great-grandchildren James and Violet Bezet.
Friends will be received at Harmon Funeral Home on Sunday December 13th, 2020 from 2 to 6 pm.
A funeral Mass will be Celebrated 10 am on Monday December 14th at the Church of the Assumption, 15 Webster Ave., Staten Island, NY 10301
