Lifelong Rosebank Resident Elizabeth “Eileen” Ferrie (Mom, Grammy, Little Grammy, GG, Slams and Mrs. Ferrie) passed away on November 19th, 2024 after a short illness.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 15th, 1929, she moved to the “Warren Manor” section of Staten Island as a young girl and attended PS 39 before graduating from New Dorp High in 1948.
Eileen’s career was diverse and impressive. She began her work at the bakery in the Staten Island Ferry Terminal, before its destruction by fire. Over the years, she lent her skills to Richmond Dry Goods and Engles Clothing, both in Stapleton, as well as Charles Weland and General Hardware in Manhattan. From there, she worked at JC Penney’s, EJ Korvettes, and Joseph Pisarri - all located on Staten Island. Her expertise also found a place at General Heating and AC, Artcraft Fence, and ABC Service Station. She concluded her fulfilling career as the Medical Records Secretary at the Nina Eaton Center of United Cerebral Palsy of New York State, where her dedication left a lasting impact.
Eileen was an active member of the Staten Island Historical Society Women’s Auxiliary, the Election Board and Wagner College Guild, along with the New York City Retired Fireman’s lunches held each month.
She was married to Andrew F. Ferrie on October 21st, 1950, and the couple moved to Rosebank, living there until his passing on September 2nd, 1985. The Ferrie Family Home on Scarboro Ave has remained Eileen’s home since.
She loved to travel and dance with her companion of many years, Russell Fox, before his passing on May 19th, 2017.
She is survived by her daughter Andrea Edwards, son-in-law Mitchel J. Edwards, son Glenn A. Ferrie, beloved daughter-in-law Edith Ferrie; Grandchildren Glenn Ferrie Jr. (Kathleen Ferrie), Erin Norton (Timothy Norton), Scott Ferrie, Harrison W. Edwards, and Ryann V. Hannigan (Pat Hannigan); Great-Grandchildren Summer, Vivienne, Reagan, Declan, Andrew, Margaret, Finn, Emalyn, Patrick, Kelley and Russell.
The Family will welcome visits at the Casey Funeral Home on Sunday, November 24th from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM.
There will be a Mass of Christian burial at St. Teresa’s Church on Monday, November 25th at 10:45 AM and burial at Moravian Cemetery immediately following Church Service.
