Dedicated to her family and volunteering
Elizabeth (Betty) Carullo, wife of the late John Carullo Sr., was born in Tompkinsville to Patrick and Rose McGarry. She was the sister of James McGarry (Lorna), the late John McGarry (Eileen) and the late Rosalie Moreau (Daniel).
Betty resided in West Brighton for 35 years, moving to Westerleigh after her husband's passing.
In 2012 she moved to Lincroft, N.J., to be closer to her daughter, Patricia DeLeo and her family.
She is survived by her children, John & Vicky Carullo and Patricia & Joe DeLeo. Her grandchildren, Jennifer & Michael Quick, Michael & Achini Carullo, Matthew DeLeo and Elizabeth DeLeo, and one great-granddaughter, Iliana Carullo, along with many loving nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Betty was a proud graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel and St. Peter's Girls High School.
She began her working career at Philip Gordon & Co. as a supervisor in the Stocks and Bonds department, leaving to care for her children. Betty then returned to the work force in 1975, working for Irving Trust & Co., now Bank of New York, in Stocks and Bonds.
Betty enjoyed volunteering her time with many organizations and treasured the many friends she made along the way. Some of the organizations benefitting from her service were: St. Peter's Mother's Club, St. Vincent's Hospital (now RUMC) Ladies Auxiliary, and Meals on Wheels, where in 2007, she was honored as an Outstanding Volunteer, by the Staten Island Inter Agency Council for Aging. She started delivering meals on Staten Island with her best friend, Mildred DeSio, and continued delivering meals in her building after moving to New Jersey, right up until she was not allowed to do so anymore due to COVID.
She also was a member of the Castleton Corners AARP, the Sisters Disciples of The Divine Master, and Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Div. #2 - St. Brigid. She was also acknowledged in 2017 for her volunteering at Luftman Towers & Pavilion. Anyone who knew Betty knew she was a dedicated Yankees fan, never wanting to miss an opportunity to watch a game.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of her favorite charities: Meals on Wheels or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Visiting is Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave. Funeral Mass is on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.
