Dot and Mark were a fun loving couple. They enjoyed outings in their long-time West Brighton neighborhood hanging out with family and friends. They loved family get-togethers. They liked to travel and shared many special adventures, often returning with hilarious stories. Dot and Mark added humor and spice to every party and dinner. Dot also loved spending time at the beach and with her favorite dog Lucky.
Dot was a graduate of New Dorp High School, and studied at both St. John’s University and Rutgers University. Dot retired from a professional career in accounting and business management several years ago. Her experience spanned a variety of industries, including building services, logistics management, legal services, the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) and the music industry. During her time in the music industry she supported industry legends including Todd Rundgren, The Black Sabbath, The Blue Oyster Cult, Patti Smith, Aldo Nova and many others. During her time at NYMEX, she oversaw a number of acquisitions and integrations.
In addition to her professional career, Dot was a highly creative person. She was an outstanding amateur singer and was always ready to belt out a tune. She was also a talented amateur artist and enjoyed painting and drawing. She loved to cook and could execute complicated recipes flawlessly. She was a dedicated gardener, creating beauty in unlikely places. She was a thoughtful gift giver, and created decorative wrapping that recipients were reluctant to undo. Dot was also competent in the kitchen and actively embraced Christmas activities. Dot was thoughtful, kind, bossy, enthusiastic, opinionated, well read, sarcastic, giving, charming and a fighter until the end.
Dot loved children. As a teenager she was an engaging and tireless companion to her younger brother and sister. As an adult, she loved spending time with her large extended family, particularly the children.
Dot is remembered lovingly by her surviving sister Cathy Genzlinger, her brother-in-law Jordan Schweon, her brother Thomas Luke Genzlinger and sister-in-law Priscilla Genzlinger, and the members of the Gordon and Schweon families.
A small, private memorial for immediate family is planned. She will be deeply missed by the many whose lives she touched.
