Born Doris Carmichael in Stapleton, she was brought to Dongan Hills as a child. She lived there before marrying her husband of 62 years, Henry Lukawski, in 1951. In 1953, the couple settled in Eltingville.
In 1980, Mrs. Lukawski became a salesclerk at Macy's in the Staten Island Mall. She loved her work and devoted 27 years to her job before retiring in 2007.
She enjoyed playing bingo, trips to Atlantic City with her husband and crocheting.
Mrs. Lukawski was known for crocheting clothing and blankets for anyone in the family who was having a baby. She was especially close with her daughter, Colleen Murasso, whom she considered a lifeline, family said.
Mrs. Lukawski was a parishioner of St. John Neumann R.C. Church, Greenridge.
Her son, Henry Jr., died in 1980, and her daughter, Mary Ellen Contri, died in 1994.
In addition to her husband, Henry, and her daughter, Colleen, surviving are three more daughters, Jayne Lukawski, Deborah Wright and Patricia Watson; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills, with mass at 10 a.m. in St. John Neumann Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.
