Native Islander, 'her house was always the place to be'
Diane Marrocco, 74 years of age, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021 at Northwell Hospital.
Diane was born on January 29, 1947 in Staten Island, NY, to the late John and Ethel Ruberto. She was one of five children; two preceded her in death, Sonny Ruberto and Anita Romano. Diane attended Port Richmond High School in Staten Island.
Diane married Ralph Marrocco Sr. and was married for 55 wonderful years. "Diane was my everything, the best wife and mother. We enjoyed Sunday dinners, taking car rides, trips to AC, and being around family and friends," said Ralph Marrocco Sr.
They had one child, Ralph Marrocco Jr., Little Ralphie, as Diane always said. "She was the best mom, from teaching me to ride a bike to playing sports. She was always there for me. I was a true momma's boy and will miss her dearly."
In April 2001 Diane got the daughter she never had when Ralph Jr. married Keri O'Brien. Keri and my mom had a special relationship, said Ralphie.
Diane always enjoyed helping others, spending time with her family, laughing, and always wearing a smile on her face. She was a loving and caring person, always thinking of others first. Diane enjoyed cooking, her house was always the place to be during the holidays with family and friends. Diane loved her three granddaughters Ashley, Amanda and Addison Marrocco; they were the apple in her eye. Not a day went by where she did not see or talk to them. Nanny, as she was known, always baked with her grandchildren, whether it be her famous Jelly Christmas cookies, her mashed potatoes or her Sunday sauce; it was always so delicious.
One of her favorite things to do was to attend Kenny Rodgers concerts; she went to numerous concerts over the years. "To know her was to love her."
Diane will continue to inspire us all for years and years to come. May she rest in peace as she makes our angels laugh in heaven with her amazing sense of humor.
Diane leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband, son and his wife Ralph Marrocco Sr. and Jr., Keri Marrocco, 3 grandchildren Ashley, Amanda, and Addison Marrocco, two sisters Beverley Roberts and Marybeth Hayes, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Diane touched are invited to Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, 30 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, 2021. Funeral Mass is Monday March 1st at 11:15 at Our Lady Star of the Sea.
