Dawn Anderson, 47, of Todt Hill, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, after a short illness, at SIUH. Born April 13, 1969, Dawn was a lifelong Staten Island resident and a graduate of New Dorp High School. She started her work career as a dispatcher at Breen Brothers Towing before becoming a bus operator for the MTA in 1993. While there, she became active in ATU Local 726, and was elected a shop steward numerous years before being elected as the first female executive board member in the 100- year history of the union. She was a delegate to the ATU's Women's Caucus, Latino Caucus and the International Convention. She was promoted to dispatcher in 2014. She was famous in the MTA for the Thanksgiving dinner she hosted for all the Staten Island MTA employees forced to work on Thanksgiving Day. In her off time she enjoyed spending time with her son and going to the casinos with her friends. She is survived by her loving son, Michael, and the entire membership of ATU Local 726, who considered her a sister. A gathering of friends and family will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home on Slosson Ave.
