Born in Manhattan, he was brought to Staten Island as a child and lived in South Beach for most of his life before settling in Sunnyside.
A graduate of McKee High School, he worked for Sedutto's Ice Cream Factory in Port Richmond for many years before it closed in the 1970s. He then worked at the Boston Fish Market in West Brighton, and later as a driver for Moravian Florist in New Dorp and Clark's House of Flowers in Castleton Corners. He retired last year.
Mr. Moran was an avid traveler and enjoyed visiting Hawaii, Atlantic City and Las Vegas, among other places. He was also a huge fan of Frank Sinatra, and had "all his pictures and records," recalls his brother, Michael.
"He was so warm and friendly and always made you smile. He will be missed dearly," he said.
He was a parishioner of St. Teresa's R.C. Church, Castleton Corners.
His wife of 18 years, the former Connie Minogue, died in 2008.
Surviving are two step-daughters, Melanie Velez and Stephanie Ostrowski; two brothers, Michael and Joseph; two sisters, Lorraine Licatta and Rose Rosso, and five step-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners. Arrangements include cremation.
