Charles Francis Karbowski, 87, of Castleton Corners passed away peacefully at Seaview Rehabilitation Center on Friday, Feb. 28, 2020, after a short stay at the hospital.
Born on Sept. 26, 1932, in Staten Island, N.Y., he was the son of Charles and Julia Karbowski.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Jeanette Lord, son-in-law, Laurence Lord, granddaughters, Jennifer and Samantha, and his brothers, Joseph and Frank Karbowski. His beloved wife, Jeanne Karbowski, of 59 1/2 years predeceased him in 2017. Charles is also predeceased by his beloved daughter, Donna Karbowski, and siblings, Robert Karbowski and Eleanor Bruno.
Charles attended McKee Technical High School until the age of 15 when his father passed away. Charles worked at Whalen's Trucking Company, Hewitt & Roberts Rubber Company and Gibson Company to help provide for his family. After getting engaged to Jeanne, he began working at Nassau Smelting and Refinery Company where he worked as a truck mechanic for the next 34 years until they closed. Charles then worked at Clove Lake Nursing home in maintenance and security for the next 10 years. Charles enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing, hitting the slots at Atlantic City, television and spending time with his family and friends.
His greatest joy came from being with his granddaughters who he loved beyond measure. Charles was a proud member of the Marine & Aviation Anchor Club Branch 119 on Staten Island and a member of the Castleton Corners AARP. Charles was very outgoing and friendly to everyone he met. A devout Catholic, he was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of Sea Church in Huguenot.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 202,0 at Casey Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, at St. Teresa's Church, 1634 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, N.Y. 10314. Interment is at Moravian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
