Catherine “Kit” Donoghue, born Catherine O’Leary on September 15, 1927, in Cork, Ireland, peacefully departed this world at home on February 24, 2024, surrounded by the loving embrace of her family. She was predeceased by her cherished husband of nearly 50 years, James Donoghue, with whom she shared a life filled with love, warmth, and unwavering devotion. In her heart, Catherine held dear the memories of her beloved parents, Elizabeth and Michael O’Leary, her brothers Cornelius and Jeremiah, and her sisters Elizabeth, Ellen, and Margaret, who have also gone before her.
Left to cherish her memory are her adoring children: James (wife Lori), Charles (wife Patricia), and Elizabeth (husband Joseph), who carry forth her legacy of love, grace, and compassion. Catherine is also survived by her sister, Anne Sheehan; six grandchildren, Joseph (wife Jillian), Meghan (husband John), Kerry (husband Jeffrey), Nicole, Patrick, and Kailee; her great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and countless loved ones who were an endless source of pride and joy.
Catherine's journey to the United States aboard the SS America on March 13, 1948, marked the beginning of a new chapter led with courage and determination. Settling in Staten Island, she embarked on a fulfilling career, dedicating many years of service to the AT&T Corporation. A devout Catholic, Catherine's faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she found solace and strength as a dedicated parishioner at Our Lady of Good Counsel.
Catherine's home and heart were sanctuaries of love and hospitality, where she welcomed all who crossed their thresholds. A beacon of kindness and compassion, she touched the lives of countless souls with her gentle spirit and open heart.
Her absence will be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her, yet her legacy of love, warmth, and generosity will forever endure in the hearts of many. Her indomitable spirit, radiant smile, and boundless love will continue illuminating lives for generations to come.
