Brian Halleran of Staten Island, NY, passed away at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY, on Monday, April 22, after a brief illness. He was 52.
Brian was born in Brooklyn, NY, on June 24, 1972, the youngest of two children of Ronald Joseph Halleran, a trust officer at Chase Bank, and his wife Helen Mary Halleran (nee Kent). His parents and his older brother, Shawn Halleran, moved to Staten Island in 1967.
The couple married in 1967 and two years later moved to Staten Island where they raised their two sons. Both boys attended St. Peter’s Grammar School and St. Peter’s High School, from which Brian graduated on June 27, 1989. Brian worked at Chase Bank for several years and then worked in trade settlement operations at several securities firms. In 2010 he left work to care for his mother Helen, who was confined to a nursing home where she passed away December 14, 2018. Immediately thereafter he cared for his father who was undergoing treatment for malignant melanoma up until his death on October 9, 2022
Brian is survived by his older brother Shawn of Tom’s River, NJ, and Shawn’s three children Jeannamarie, Paul and Julianna, and by his uncle William P. Kent (Roseann) of Myrtle Beach, SC; his niece, Cynthia Harris of Quincy, MA.
“Brian will always be remembered not only by me as a fantastic brother, but by everyone who knew him as the very definition of a loyal and giving friend,” Shawn said. “And his friends’ love and support for Brian in his battle with lung fibrosis has been a great comfort to our family.”
Viewings are scheduled will be held on Thursday, April 25th, at the Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10310 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held the following day at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s R.C. Church, 53 St., Marks Place, Staten Island, followed by cremation.
