Born and raised in Eltingville, he graduated from Tottenville High School.
Mr. Fortunato’s enthusiasm for baseball began when he was a boy. He played on teams in the Great Kills Little League and on the baseball team at Tottenville High School. He also played at the College of Staten Island, Willowbrook, where he was a student.
He also had been working for two years for the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, where he was a pallbearer and worked in maintenance.
“He was very outgoing, very friendly, very caring,” said his brother, Ralph III.
Mr. Fortunato enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and his girlfriend, Angelina Taddeo.
He loved going to family gatherings that included his aunts, uncles and cousins.
Along with his brother, Ralph III, surviving are his brother, Daniel; his parents, Ralph Jr. and Teresa Mariano Fortunato, and his maternal grandmother, Grace Mariano.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 11 a.m. mass in St. Clare’s R.C. Church, Great Kills. Burial will follow in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn.
