STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Lifelong Staten Islander Anthony T. Battista, 61, of Rosebank, a Vietnam veteran who served two tours of duty as a U.S. Marine, died Saturday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.
Mr. Battista spent his entire life in Rosebank.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1968, achieving the rank of lance corporal before his honorable discharge in 1971.
After his service, Mr. Battista worked in a warehouse for about 20 years, before taking a job on the piers in Brooklyn. He later worked as a machine operator for the New York Container Terminal on Staten Island.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed lifting weights and riding his bike.
Mr. Battista is survived by his wife of 41 years, Doreen; two daughters, Karen Mormino and Gina Battista, and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's R.C. Church, Dongan Hills. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
