Andrew F. Duffy, Jr., 76 of Westerleigh, a founder of Richmond Elevator, who was known for his love of travel, passed away at home surrounded by his family on July 21, 2017 after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a rare neurodegenerative disease. Mr. Duffy was born and raised in the Bronx and South Ozone Park until he married his wife, Anne Duffy in 1966 and finally settled in Westerleigh in 1971. Mr. Duffy served in the Army Reserves. He worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard as a ship fitter until it closed. He then became a New York City Building Inspector and retired in 1986. In 1992, Mr. Duffy along with his two brothers Steven and James started Richmond Elevator, at one time the fastest growing business in Staten Island. Mr. Duffy retired from the family business in 2010. His employees spoke very highly of him, saying he would help anyone with anything. Leisurely, he loved to travel and visited 81 countries around the world. Additionally, he played paddle ball, tennis and swam. He also loved to play chess and poker. He loved going out to dinner with his wife and their friends. He was a member of the Broadway YMCA, where everyone knew and loved him. He loved spending time with his family every summer in Long Beach Island, a family vacation spot since the early 1970s. He is survived by his former wife of 27 years and primary caregiver, Anne Duffy, his daughters, Lorraine Heffernan and Heather Gray and his son Paul Duffy, his son-in- laws, Peter Heffernan and Donald Gray, his grandchildren, Shannon Lutz, Grace Heffernan, Faith Heffernan and Shane Gray. His brothers, Robert F. Duffy, Thomas Duffy, James Duffy, Steven Duffy and his sister, Mary Ellen McKie. His sister Kathleen Rivera predeceased him in July 2009.
