Amelia 'Millie' Marino Child radio singer, 95 Amelia Mastrogiacomo-Marino, known as Millie to her family and friends, died peacefully of natural causes at her home on Monday, April 18, 2016. Born and raised in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen, Millie spent her summers at New Dorp Beach. She loved Staten Island so much that she and her husband, Rocco, decided to raise their family there and moved to Dongan Hills in 1958. As a young child of six, Millie was a regular performer on a local radio show called The Children's Hour. Known as "Little Millie," she was famous for her rendition of "The Daughter of Rosie O'Grady." She played the piano and enjoyed music. She was very proud of being the first high school graduate in her family; she attended Washington Irving High School. Upon graduation, Millie was hired as head bookkeeper at the Hotel Governor Clinton in Manhattan. She retired from The Irving Trust Company as the head of accounts payable in 1982. Her parents were born in Quaglietta, Italy, and so was her husband, Rocco, who predeceased her in 1985. Millie found great pleasure in cooking all the peasant meals she was raised on by her mother. Her daughter, Linda, said, "Nothing made her happier than her family eating at her home. She was also a master sewer and made all the curtains in the house." She loved gardening and growing her own veggies. Millie was a member of the St. Charles Senior Group, but due to her age could no longer attend meetings. She did keep in touch with some of the members. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Schwartz and son-in-law, Hal; daughters, Linda and Theresa Marino; grandchildren, Tracy and Michael Schwartz, Christine (Kevin) Paduch, Glenden and Juliette-Amelia Sullivan; great-grandson, Anthony Joseph Paduch; and Godson, Joseph Impeduglia.
