Born in Argentina, he immigrated to the United States when he was 4 years old, moving with his family to the Bronx, then to Stapleton and Clifton. He settled in Castleton Corners in 1976.
Mr. Gomez graduated from McKee High School.
He worked as a cargo manager for Iberia Airlines at JFK International Airport for 30 years, retiring in 2001. He then began working as a courier at Masterpiece International, a fine art and exhibit shipping firm in Manhattan.
Mr. Gomez enjoyed daily walks with his dogs in Island parks. He also enjoyed entertaining, and socializing with neighbors and friends.
Described as "a good guy" who was always happy, he loved telling stories and making people laugh, family said. His family meant the world to him and he was beloved by all who knew him, they added.
His wife of 35 years, the former Yamilett Monge, died in 2006.
Surviving Mr. Gomez are his son, Albert Jr.; his daughter, Veronica Terrana; his brother, James, and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Casey Funeral Home, with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Teresa's R.C. Church, both in Castleton Corners. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.
