Nelda “Lucy” (Nash) Smith, 77, of Gastonia passed away peacefully on Sunday January 27, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Lucy was under the care of Gaston Hospice when she passed away. Lucy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a big supporter of others with cancer and was active in the Knots for Love organization. Lucy knitted many hats to support cancer awareness and treatment. People from around the world have received hats Lucy made. Lucy loved life and she loved to travel with her family near and far. She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Lucy is the daughter of the late Blanche (Ellis) and George Allen Nash, Sr. Also preceding her in death is her brother – James Ellis Nash.
Left to cherish her memories and to carry on her legacy are her husband of almost 45 years, Clifford, “Rocky” Dewey Smith, Jr., her son, Richard Smith of Boiling Springs, SC, daughter Melissa Goode and husband Parish of Charlotte, NC. Missing their grandmother are
Marissa, Joshua and wife Hannah, James and wife Anna, Mercedes and Kinsley, Lucy leaves behind two great-grandchildren – Chase and Charleigh. Her brother, George “Buddy” Nash Jr. and wife Rose of Commonwealth, VA and sister-in-law Christine Nash (wife of James), are missing Lucy.
The family plans a private memorial service at the family home at a later date. The family will receive friends at the family home.
