Larry Ronald Miller, 72, formerly of Stanley, passed away peacefully on Thursday December 15, 2022 at Terra Bella in Shelby. Larry was a United States Air Force Veteran who proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a sergeant and worked as an aircraft mechanic. Professionally, he was well known for his work in Heating and Air Conditioning. He was also a Free Mason and an airplane pilot. He was active in the Civil Air Patrol achieving the rank of Captain. He loved working on things and he could fix nearly anything. He will be missed by his family, his friends, neighbors and all that knew and loved him.
Larry is the son of the late Leona (Brooks) Miller and Chandler McCoy Miller. His sister Shirley Wiggins and his brothers, Von Miller, Jack Miller, Mack Miller, Truman Miller and Gene Miller have also gone on before him.
Larry leaves behind his daughters Kim Fiskeaux and her husband Daniel and Lynn Helton and her husband Marc. Larry is survived by his four grandchildren: Jacob Fiskeaux, Jordan Helton, Jared Fiskeaux and Sara Helton. His sisters: Betty Duckworth of Stanley, Janice Bradsher of Charlotte, Sandra Godin of Springfield, MA and Donna Markus of Ft. Mill, SC and brothers: Bobby Miller of Little Rock, AR and William Miller of Stanley are also missing Larry. He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday December 21, 2022 at Carothers Funeral Home, 412 South Main Street, Stanley. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 1:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors, accorded by The United States Air Force and The Gaston County Honor Guard along with Masonic Rites will follow at Hillcrest Gardens in Mt. Holly. Reverend Roger Overton will officiate and offer words of encouragement and hope to family and friends that gather to remember Larry. James C. Duckworth IV, Kyle Anderson, Lester R. Wiggins III, Lester R. Wiggins, Jr. and James C. Duckworth III will act as pallbearers.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Larry’s name to The Oxford Orphanage, C/O The Stanley Masonic Lodge #713, 115 Morris Farm Road Stanley, NC 28164.
