Helen Elva (Horton) Farmer, 95, of Gastonia passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Wednesday August 5, 2020 under the care of Gaston Hospice. Helen was a traditional homemaker focused on her family. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a great-great grandmother. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all that knew and loved her.
Helen is the daughter of the late Edna (Jenkins) and Mark David Horton. Her husband, Craig Henry Farmer, her son, James D. “Tig” Farmer, sisters, Sarah Conroy and Mildred Conard and brothers, Arthur Horton, Dean Horton and Bobby Horton preceded her in death.
Left to cherish their memories of Helen and to carry on her legacy are her daughter, Darlene Caldwell and her husband Ronnie of Gastonia and son, Gary C. Farmer and his wife Hilda of Mt. Holly. Missing their grandmother are, David, Brandi, Stacy, Erica, Merodie, Abby and Marie. Her great-grandchildren are Nicholas, Kelbi, Ava, Aubrey, Alec, Riley, Anson, Raemy, Ryker, Chloe, Callie, Renly, Wesley and Victoria. Her great-great grandson is Brax. She also leaves behind her sisters Betty McCoig and Rachael Lewis.
A celebration of Helen’s life will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, August 9, 2020 at Pearl Baptist Church, 4657 NC-27, Iron Station, NC. The family will receive friends at the church, one hour before the service, beginning at 1:30 PM. Committal and burial will be held at Hillcrest Gardens, in Mt. Holly, following the celebration of life service. Reverend Hugh Whitfield will offer words of encouragement and hope to those that gather to remember Helen. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
