Stanley Pelter passed away quietly early Tuesday morning at the age 104. He was the son of Jack and Rae Pelter and grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. He graduated from Lincoln High School and attended St. John's University as well as the University of Vermont.
The day after Pearl Harbor he enlisted in the Army and he served for duration of the war in the Army Air Corps. He was stationed in Trinidad.
In the late 1940's he started a business, the American Auto Center on Richmond Hill Ave. in Stamford. He maintained the business for many decades, working six days a week.
He married his late wife Frances Rudnick Pelter in 1949 and they moved to Stamford where they remained. He was active in B'nai Brith for several years.
He loved history and would speak to the Senior class at West Hill High School each year around Veteran's Day about what the country was like during WWII.
He was a NY Giants fan and loved playing golf. He also loved the Senior Men's Group where he was active for many years.
Most of all, he loved the city of Stamford. When guests from out of town came to visit, he would take them on a tour of the city, proudly pointing out how the city had grown.
He was predeceased by this two older brothers; Sidney Pelter of Beverly Hills, Calif. and Harold Pelter of Laguna Beach, Calif.
He is survived by two daughters, Robin Suplinskas of Bristol, CT. and Donna Graubard of Los Angeles.In addition, he leaves five grandchildren: Steven Suplinskas of Mt. Washington, Mass.,Adam Suplinskas of Auburn, Maine, Aviva Ostreicher of Jackson, N.J., Svi Graubard of Los Angeles and Levi Graubard, also of L.A. He also leaves five great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Andrea Lecky and Karen Harley, both of whom cared for him at Atria for several years. Their love and care was exceptional.
A memorial service is scheduled for this Friday, March 28, at twelve noon at the Leo Gallagher Funeral Home on Summer St. Interment will take place in Los Angeles. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gishrei Shalom Jewish Congregation at 37 Main St., Southington, CT. 06489.
