Roy Salvatore Scarvey finished his work in this world on April 3, 2025. He was the son of Dominick and Pauline (Salvatore) Scarvey and was a lifelong Stamford resident with very fond memories of growing up on the West Side.
Roy wore many hats as a young man, including school bus driver, postman, milkman, and fuel oil delivery man, but he found his true calling when he founded his own landscaping service in the late 70s. Roy’s work was his great passion, and he treasured the relationships he established with clients and all those he came in contact with in the course of running his business. Those not ready to work hard did not last long working with Roy, but those who were found him to be a kind and generous employer and lifelong friend. It meant a great deal to Roy that his son Sean chose to work beside him for years and later took over the business.
His sons fondly recall camping trips with Roy on East Beach, where he was known for eating legendary amounts of shellfish. His grandchildren will remember that their Pops made it a priority to be at family gatherings and celebrations. When eating out was involved, he almost certainly picked up the check and overtipped the server. He always looked sharp and was known for his work uniform: jeans, polo shirts and Timberlands. When his toe began to give him severe pain, he simply cut off the end of his boot and kept working. While relationships were infinitely more important to Roy than things, he found much joy in his impeccably restored 1940 Ford pickup truck.
Roy was predeceased by his parents, his wife Bonnie, and his younger brother Frank. He is survived by sons Dave (Katie), Dan (Shannon), and Sean (Sherry), beloved grandchildren Alexandra, Ryan, Madeline, Jacob, Elaine Watson (William), Quinn Rizzo (Gary), Emma, and Spencer (Francisco Marrero), great-granddaughter Laura Watson, his sister Jane Dicine (Charles), sister-in-law Carole, and special friend Joan Tedeschi. Roy greatly enjoyed the company and support of his cousin and friend, Dr. Michael Sabia (Sharon).
A celebration and remembrance of Roy’s life will take place at the Italian Center at 1620 Newfield Avenue in Stamford on Saturday, 4/19/25, at 1:30 pm.
