Mary Joette Gerstner passed away on January 12, 2014 in Stamford, Connecticut. She was born March 20, 1941 in Binghamton, NY. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty years, Richard T. Gerstner. She is survived by her daughter Tricia Gerstner Crump and son-in-law Gregg Crump of Pennsylvania, her son David L. Gerstner and daughter-in-law Maureen Bujdud Gerstner of Stamford, Connecticut. She is survived by her five grandchildren Connor, Tyler, Jane, Alison and Katherine. She is also survived by her brother Thomas G. Tallman of New York and several cousins, nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Joette grew up in Endicott, NY. She was first employed as a paralegal and then went to work for IBM where she met her husband Richard. They fell in love, got married and moved to Stamford in 1964 where they started their family. In 1978 the family moved to Paris, France where she enjoyed an adventurous life absorbing the culture and traveling throughout Europe. After four years they returned to Stamford but soon enjoyed another adventure in Tokyo, Japan.
Joette was a gourmet cook and enjoyed hosting dinner parties for friends and family. She was a thoughtful, warm, kind, and caring person who had a terrific sense of humor. She had the gift of gab, could strike up a conversation with anyone, and was intrigued with the details of every person she met. It was a gift. She devoted her life to her family and friends and will be missed every single day.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, January 15th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Leo P. Gallagher & Sons Funeral Home located at 2900 Summer Street in Stamford. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, January 16th at 10:30 am at the Church of the Holy Spirit located at 403 Scofieldtown Road in Stamford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.
