Louise was born on January 20, 1931 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Mary (Maroney) and George Strelakos. She graduated from Stamford High School where she was a cheerleader, and Wood Business School in New York City. She had a lengthy and accomplished professional career as an administrative assistant at the Stamford Board of Education, Stamford Hospital, Continental Can, and other corporations. After her retirement, she lived for many years in Westerly, Rhode Island before returning to Darien.
Louise is survived by her three loving children, Diane Simonsen of Stamford, Ct., Jyl Gallup (Richard) of Ellenton, Florida, and Christopher Simonsen (Laura) of Raymond, Maine. She was also predeceased by her husband, Warren R. Simonsen. She had four beautiful grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Ashley Gallup, Bradley Gallup, Teagan Simonsen, and Finnley Simonsen.
Louise had countless beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins, and they maintained extremely close relationships. She is also predeceased by her four siblings, Peter Strelakos, Mary Dandanell, Sophia Robie, and George Strelakos Jr.
She was a great patron of the arts, museums, and an avid fan of the movies. She traveled extensively to Ireland (many times), Greece, Alaska, and other places. She was extremely proud of her Irish heritage. She was very gregarious, and always the “life of the party”! She was cherished by all who knew her, and will be truly missed.
There will be a memorial mass at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Stamford, at 10:00 am on Friday, April 8, 2022. Burial at St. John’s Cemetery on Camp Ave. will follow.
