Lewis "Bugaloo" Snell

Lewis joined the U.S. Army at the age of 18. He was a chef and served until he was honorably discharged. After his military service, he held various jobs before becoming employed at Clairol in Stamford, CT, where he worked for 28 years before retiring.

Lewis loved to dance, which earned him the nickname, "Bugaloo." He was known for his love of dancing and partying. His smile and laughter could light up any room. His favorite music was gospel, and he loved reading the Bible. His hobbies included fishing, cooking, and traveling.

Lewis was a kind and helpful person, always willing to assist anyone in need. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His great-grandchildren affectionately gave him the name "Bo," and he cherished the time he spent with them, doing different activities and going on adventures together.

Besides his parents, Lewis was predeceased by two sisters, Lizzie Davis and Georgiana Wearing, and two brothers, William Snell and Walter Snell. He was also predeceased by his ex-wife, Martha Snell. Besides his wife, Delouris Snell, he is survived by his children: Anna Coleman, of New London, CT; Lynette McLellan, of Middletown, CT; Robert L. Snell, of Norwich, CT; Bernadette Snell, of New Haven, CT; Sandra (Renee) Snell, Denise Bermero, Jermaine Snell, Jasmine Snell, of Stamford, CT; Dennis Haygood of Raleigh, NC; and Jada Lane, of Macon, GA. He has 28 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters, Willimae Richardson and Nancy Jenkins, of Eutawville, SC;, and one brother, Henry Snell, of Wake Forest, NC, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Calling hours for Lewis will be held Thursday, April 10, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT 06905. A funeral service will occur Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 11:00 AM, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT 06905. A graveside service with military honors will follow at State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Ln, Middletown, CT 06457.
