Joseph Charles O'Neill

He was born on March 19, 1923 in Flushing, New York. He was the son of Charles and Mary (Fenner) O’Neill. He was preceded in death by his first and second wives Virginia O’Neill (nee Devine), and Florence Powderly O’Neill (nee Mahoney) as well as his siblings John, Jane Byrne, Patricia O’Brien, Elizabeth Gilmartin and James. Buddy is survived by his sister-in-law Elizabeth O’Neill, dear friend Marilyn Higgins, and his loving family: Nancy DuMont, Maureen Pape (Glenn), Joseph O'Neill (Cynthia), John O'Neill (Mary Pat), Eileen Curry (John), and Elizabeth Denny (Ron). He was predeceased by his youngest daughter Virginia and son-in-law Thomas DuMont (Tad). He also leaves behind his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who admired him and will cherish his memory.

Buddy was a proud graduate of Xavier High School, Manhattan and Fordham University, Bronx, NY. He attended Fordham on the GI Bill after serving in the Army during World War II. He was stationed in Europe and, as a member of the Signal Corp, was involved in communications for the D-Day invasion. He shared many memories of this time in his life with his friends, children and grandchildren. One notable moment was how he won a jitterbug contest in Paris with his combat boots on. He was a former Executive with American Brands and was involved in computer technology during its infancy. He was an avid golfer and entertainer. He loved to sing, especially when he could wow the crowd at the Century Club in Breezy Point, New York.

A wake in Buddy’s memory will be held at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford on Thursday, May 5th during the hours of 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 6th at St. Gabriel RC Church, 914 Newfield Avenue, Stamford at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Queen of Peace, 124 Rock Rimmon Rd., Stamford.
