December 12, 1957 – December 19, 2010
Fredric Carl Padgett, Jr., 53, passed away on December 19, 2010 in Stamford, Connecticut following an extended illness. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Christina Padgett, and a son, Fredric Carl Padgett III, both of Stamford; his parents, Fredric Sr. and Mary Ferguson Padgett of Stamford; a brother, Thomas Padgett and his wife Sherry of Huntington, Connecticut; a sister, Katherine Padgett Mair, her husband Gary, and their sons Cameron and Kalan.
A lifelong resident of Stamford, Freddy attended both parochial and public schools, beginning with Saint Mary’s Elementary School, and graduating from J. M. Wright Technical School as valedictorian, where he studied plumbing and heating. He apprenticed under Benjamin DeAngelis and progressed quickly to journeyman with the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters, Local 173, earning five (5) licenses (F2, P1, P2, S1 and S2). He was especially proud of his role in enhancing Stamford’s urban landscape as a construction foreman for numerous award-winning buildings. Toward the end of his career, he spent seven years as the Facilities Director of Wee Burn Country Club in Darien, Connecticut, and a short time in the same capacity at Avalon Corporate Suites on Washington Boulevard in Stamford.
Freddy’s strong faith was evident in his dedication to the Church from an early age, first as an altar boy at Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church of Stamford, and later, in his standing as a Third Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Saint Augustine Council #41.
Freddy’s commitment to his hometown manifested itself in a mayoral appointment to the Stamford Golf Authority where he worked to oversee the renovation and maintenance of Sterling Farms Golf Course and all property buildings. His love and knowledge of the game preceded him and along with his extensive construction experience and strong business acumen, made him a valuable and integral member of the Authority.
Freddy was filled with an extraordinary joy for life which he shared with everyone he met. His infectious laugh and handsome smile were as well known throughout Stamford as his multiple career achievements. His death brings profound grief and irreparable loss to all who knew and loved him. Freddy loved quotes, and found this one from Robert Fulghum especially inspiring: “I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge; myth is more potent than history; dreams are more powerful than facts; hope always triumphs over experience; laughter is the cure for grief; and love is stronger than death”
