Antonio Matias Carvalho

Antonio was born in Gravelos (Vila Real), Portugal and emigrated to the United States when he was 23 years old. He became a US citizen residing in Mt Vernon NY where he a raised a family, retired and enjoyed life to the fullest in the company of friends and family, later moving to Connecticut. Although he embraced the US, he loved his native Portugal and would visit annually. He was a gentleman and a gentle man – perhaps the only time someone would hear him raise his voice was when his beloved soccer team Benfica was losing. He was a great storyteller and even if he told a story multiple times, you still laughed along with him. He will be greatly missed.

Antonio is survived by Adelia, his wife of 68 years, son Tony (wife Rosann), son Joe (wife Carol), daughter Laura (husband Jerry) and seven grandchildren, Joseph, Nicholas, Rebecca, Andrew, Anthony, Matthew & Michael.

Friends are invited to calling hours 4:00 - 8:00pm on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St, Stamford, CT.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 4 Riverside Ave, Riverside, CT. He will be laid to rest at Gates of Heaven, Hawthorne, NY.
