Albert I. Rosen, M.D., a psychiatrist, died as a result of a fire in his home in Port Washington, N.Y., on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. He was 73. Dr. Rosen was retired from the faculty of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in the Bronx and from Einstein’s Soundview Throgs Neck Community Mental Health Center, where he had been medical director of the adult outpatient program. Dr. Rosen, who held degrees from Columbia University, St. John’s University and the Ross University School of Medicine, entered medicine after a career shift from advertising. Before he retired, he was an officer at the Bronx District Branch of the American Psychiatric Association and remained an active member of Drugs and Society, Columbia University Seminars. An Army veteran himself, he became a passionate advocate for the health and well-being of returning Iraqi and Afghan war veterans, many of whom he met through his work. Dr. Rosen will be remembered as a good listener and someone who found something interesting about everyone. He was an avid reader and nature lover and could most often be seen reading a book, kayaking on Long Island Sound or walking his beloved dogs. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jan Morgan Rosen, of Port Washington, NY; his four brothers, Norman Rosen of Concord, CA, Dr. David M. Rosen of San Francisco, CA; Lester Rosen of the Bronx, NY; and Philip Rosen of Stamford, CT. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and Philip’s spouse Marie Orsini Rosen of Stamford, CT; his niece and nephew, Jessica Rosen of Brooklyn, NY, and Matthew Rosen of New Orleans, LA; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sally Morgan McCarren and Joseph F. McCarren of Tarrytown, NY. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at 1 P.M., at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT. Burial will immediately follow the service and will be at the Long Ridge Union Cemetery, Erskine Road, Stamford, CT. After the burial, a consolation meal will be offered and family and friends will sit Shiva until 5 PM at the Fellowship for Jewish Learning, 572 Roxbury Road, in Stamford, CT.
