Pablo Francis Mitchell, husband, father, son, brother, uncle, soldier, age 64, of Stafford, VA passed away Sunday, March 6, 2022 at the Stafford Medical Center. He was born on October 4, 1957 in Puerto Rico, the son of late Francis and Carmen (Rivera) Mitchell.
From childhood, Pablo was quick-witted with a good sense of humor. He loved animals, and on more than one occasion, brought home new pets - dogs, cats, white mice. He loved to read, and as a child sketched detailed battleship scenes, built model cars and trucks, later holding the unofficial role as the family vehicle expert.
His adult life was dedicated to the service of keeping his country and community safe. As a retired United States Army Reserve Soldier, he served his country proudly both in the time of war and peace with unwavering passion, receiving the Meritorious Service Medal on his last deployment. Pablo also served his community as a police officer rising to the rank of Chief of Police in 3 separate departments both federal and civilian: Carderock Naval Surface Warfare Base, Bethesda, MD, Cottage City Police Department, Cottage City, MD and Forest Heights Police Department, Forest Heights, MD.
Serving and protecting his country started at just 17 when he enlisted. His government service spanned the world both as a federal employee and a government contractor. Starting at the UN as a Field Service Security Officer and ending his career as a DoD government contractor, Pablo remarkably, in service to his country, lived in or visited over 40 countries.
Pablo was a Mason and a member of the following organizations: Fraternal Order of Police, International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Society of the First Infantry Division.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Mitchell; three daughters, Kaitlin Mitchell, Valentina Mitchell, and Marisa Mitchell all of Strafford County, VA; one brother, Julio Cesar Martinez (Diana) of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; one sister, Maria Elizabeth Mitchell (Mark) of Roseland, NJ, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind his “Little Man” Tito, a Jack Russell Terrier who greeted him at his truck every day after work.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30am Friday, March 18, 2022, at Quantico National Cemetery with Military Honors. To take part in the procession, please arrive at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Home at 186 Shelton Shop Rd., Strafford, VA 22556 by 9:00am, as the procession will depart promptly at 9:30am.
