She was born June 3, 1927 in Covington, Virginia, the daughter of Delia and Vessie Humphries. She was the youngest of 18 children. She was the wife of the late Edwin R. Sams, Sr.
Survivors include two sons, Edwin R. Jr. and Gary Nelson, and daughter-in-law Janet, all of Stafford; five grandchildren and their spouses, Tina and Kevin Kennedy, Kimberly and Scot Shupp, Julie and Michael Turner, Christopher and Lisa Sams, Danny and Angela Sams; and twelve great-grandchildren, Justin, Patrick, Emily, Ryan, Meghan, Erik, Mikey, Hunter, Devon, Madison, Donovin, and Brianna.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, September 30, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 1 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery.
