Lawrence Roger Scott
August 10, 1935 – August 31, 2016
IN THE CARE OF
Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service
Lawrence Roger Scott, 81, of Dumfries, departed this life on August 31, 2016.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, and sons, Roger and Chet. He is also survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Slaughter of Spotsylvania, Joan Elllis of Culpeper and Shirley Scott of Lexington.
Lawrence was a native of the Northern Virginia area and lived in Dumfries during his adult life. He served with the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. In his early career, he learned the trade of decorative ironwork and worked on notable buildings in the National Capital area. He was honored to have worked on the restoration of the Truman Balcony of The White House. He later worked as a security guard for various companies. In his spare time, Lawrence was a model railroading enthusiast. He and his father were once featured on the cover of “Model Railroader” magazine. Lawrence was a faithful and dedicated member of Triangle Baptist Church for over 35 years, serving his Lord in many capacities. He was a Deacon, a Communion Steward, served on the Baptismal Committee, worked in the Food Pantry, assisted with the Sunday School, and was a greeter. In recent years, Lawrence was the first to arrive on Sunday mornings and he prepared fresh coffee for everyone. As members and visitors arrived, he would be waiting at the door to greet them and hand them the program for the day. In fact, he served in this role on August 27th, a few days prior to his passing.
A memorial service will be held at Triangle Baptist Church on Saturday, September 10th at 11:00 am, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lawrence's memory to the Parkinson Foundation of the National Capital Area, 7700 Leesburg Pike, Suite 208, South Lobby, Falls Church, Virginia 22043.
A graveside service will be held at Quantico National Cemetery on a later date.
