Born on September 29, 1939, in Kenansville, North Carolina, J.B. dedicated his life to service—both to his country and to those he loved. He retired in 2004 after an impressive 42-year career with the Federal Government. For the final eight years of his tenure (1996-2004), he served as Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Army (AASA), a role in which he made significant contributions. He was well known for walking the halls of the Pentagon making sure to say hello and his signature “God Bless” to everyone that crossed his path, from the janitor to the highest ranked military official. In recognition of his outstanding service, he was honored with the highest Career Civilian Service Awards by the Secretary of Defense and the Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force upon his retirement. His dedication and leadership were further recognized in 2022 when he received the BG Joseph McCarthy Leadership Award from the Army Heritage Center Foundation. After retirement, he worked as a government consultant along with serving on many boards including the Army Heritage Center and Civilian Marksmanship program
Beyond his professional achievements, J.B. proudly served in the Army Reserves and remained deeply committed to his faith, family, and country throughout his life. He found immense joy in being a husband to Martha Latrelle Rackley Hudson, a father to his three children: Gregory Wayne (Heather), Cynthia Paige, and Christopher Clark (Jaynie), a grandfather to Grace Ann, Mackenzie Sage, Aaron Joel, Cassidy Evelyn, and Jackson Bailey, and a great grandfather to Sage and Sienna. He considered them his greatest accomplishments.
J.B. was known for his loyalty as a friend and his enthusiasm for golf and racing. Whether on the green or cheering at the track, he embraced life with passion and camaraderie.
A memorial service will be held on March 22, 2025, at Ramoth Baptist Church, located at 478 Ramoth Church Road in Stafford, Virginia. The service will begin at 11:00 AM.
