Debora Teresa Hayden, who loved to be called “Bass” by those who knew her best, departed her loving family on October 28, 2023.
Debora was born in Hartsville, SC, on October 11, 1956, to Garls H. Hayden and Neta M. Hayden (Brown).
Debora was the mother to Michael P. McLeod and James E. Blackmon. As a single mother, she raised her children in Sumter with love and devotion.
As a Restaurant Manager, Debora was known for pouring love into everything that was served as if it were being served to her very own family. Her hobbies included playing card games, fishing anywhere she could put a line, hosting family gatherings, and, most importantly, spending countless hours with both her grand and great-grandchildren. She was most proud of helping to raise several of her grandchildren. She was also a three-time cancer survivor.
She is survived by her two sons, Michael McLeod and James Blackmon, grandchildren Georgia Alviar (McLeod), Chandler McLeod, Landon Carswell, Alyssa Blackmon, Mya McLeod, Brooke McLeod, Dillon McLeod, and great-grandchildren Samuel Hamilton and Lincoln Alviar.
Aside from the children she doted on, Debora is survived by her sisters, Pamela Hayden, Sharon Hayden, Marie Hodge, Joye Miller, and Rhonda Hodge, and brothers Garls H. Hayden, Jr., Steve Hayden, and Philip Hayden. She was preceded in death by both parents, Garls H. Hayden and Neta M. Hayden, as well as her brother, Rodney Hayden.
Services will be held at Dr. Josh Hayden’s residence at 1700 Melette Street, Sumter, SC 29154, on November 19, 2023, at 100 PM.
In place of flowers, we ask that you donate in her name to the American Cancer Society at the following link: https://donate.cancer.org/ in hopes that someone else may be given a second chance at life.
