Bernard Lee Duncan, known by many as “Bernie”, “PaPa D”, or “Dunc”, retired from the United States Air Force after serving as a Missile Maintenance Maintainer for 27 years with many deployments to Southeast Asia. He continued to faithfully serve with the United States Air Force in a civilian capacity as a Budget Analyst until he finally decided to retire.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rommie and Dovie Duncan; sister, Maxie and her husband Harold Neece; brothers, R. Ervin Duncan, H. Evans Duncan, and Carl Duncan; and nephews, Kendall Simpkins and Gregory Quesenberry.
Bernie is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Georgia Duncan (Quesenberry); daughter, Vicki Packwood; son in law, Kenneth A. Packwood; granddaughter, Alixas Hale and grandson in law Dillon Hale with great-granddaughter Dakota Hale; and grandsons, Schylar Packwood, Zackary Packwood, and Dyllan Packwood.
He will also be greatly missed by his sister, Agnes “Sis” Simpkins, brother-in-law Paul Simpkins; mother-in-law, Ollie Quesenberry (102 y.o.); brother-in-law, Arvil Quesenberry; sister-in-law, Mary; brother-in-law, Turner Quesenberry; sister-in-law Hattie, and many nieces and nephews.
Bernie was a lifelong member of the American Legion (31 years at Post 162, Lorton, VA), Moose International, and the Civil Air Patrol, a Life member of the Veterans of Foreign Affairs (VFW) and La Societe Des 40 Hommes ET & Chevaux (40 and Eight) and a dedicated fan of NASCAR.
A visitation for Bernard will be held from from 5:00pm to 6:00pm Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel. His celebration of life will start at 6pm following the visitation.
A burial will occur at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
