Wesley Thomas Hicks, born in Houston, Texas on August 30, 1983, passed away on July 19, 2017 in Houston, Texas at the age of 33. Wesley was everyone’s son, everyone’s brother and everyone’s friend. Wes could strike up a conversation with anyone…about anything. His knowledge seemed to be never ending as he could speak on any topic or figure out any device. His natural curiosity, sparked by his grandfather seemed to have given him this instinctive ability to understand how things worked. Wes always seemed to be helping someone with something. Because he never turned you down, there was always another project on the table for him to work on. Wes found pleasure in gardening and cooking. He once told me that a childhood friend’s father was an amazing cook. Never formally trained, never used a recipe, but could just throw things together and make some of the greatest tasting food he had ever eaten. Angelo inspired him to cook, which he did with vengeance. In order to improve the quality of his cooking, Wes began planting his own vegetables. He took such delight in knowing that he could grow something and then make it delicious. But if I had to tell you his greatest passion, it was fishing. Wes loved to fish in the ocean, in the rivers or ponds. He would fish at night or during the day, it didn’t matter. Wes was always ready to go fishing. In his mind, there was always a fish out there waiting to be caught. So let’s go get it. However, Wes’s greatest loves were his children. Every phone call, every letter when he was away always started with how are the children doing? Tell them that I love them and miss them.
Wes is survived by Isabel and Arnold Teale, grandparents; Harold E. Hicks, father; Elizabeth A. Teale, mother; Gary K. Tollar, father; Michelle Mangum, sister; Hans Erbe, brother; Garrett K. Tollar, brother; Noah, son; Lelah, daughter; Isabella, daughter; and many other loving immediate family members.
