Virgil was born as the third child to Virgil L. Gibson, Sr. and Leah Gibson in Palestine, Texas. He attended San Jacinto High School where he played baseball and after graduating from high school, Virgil attended the University of Houston majoring in engineering. He served 9 years in the Texas Air National Guard/United States Air Force from 1960-1969 obtaining the rank of E-6 Tech Sgt. Virgil worked for Hudson Products for 65 years and he was hired by Ed Hudson when he worked as a surveyor on what would be the Sharpstown location. He worked in the office for over 40 years until the office moved to Sugar Land and then the company’s final move to Beasley, Texas.
He enjoyed playing softball (fast pitch) and he played until he was 55 or 60 years old. Virgil loved to watch his kids play whatever sports they enjoyed. Virgil played and enjoyed golf even though he was not very good at it. He also was an Eagles fan and loved music from the 50’s – 60’s.
Virgil is preceded in death by his parents and two older sisters, Helen Riddle and Dorothy Holmes. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jackie Gibson; his son, Capt. Jack Gibson and his wife Lisa of Missouri City, his grandson, Robert Taylor Gibson of Indiana and his daughter, Rachel Gibson of Flagstaff, Arizona.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 2 at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home, 12555 South Kirkwood Road in Stafford.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception at a venue to be announced during the service.
