TOMMY WILBANKS, age 66, of Richmond, Texas passed away on Friday, May 18, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 12, 1946 in Beaumont, Texas to Lawrence F. Wilbanks and Beatrice Belle Blair Wilbanks. Tommy proudly served his country in the United States Navy; as an AX2 aviation anti-submarine warfare technician, Petty Officer Second Class. He was a graduate of Lon Morris College. His career as an electrician; specializing in Electrical Design, enabled him to work for IBEW, NISD, Star Enterprise, Matrix Engineering, CB & I Engineering, and Fluor Engineering. Tommy had a passion for his family, loved playing golf, and was a master Scuba Diver. He was preceded in death by both his parents; his son, Jeffrey Wilbanks, and his sister, Quida Kay Wilbanks. Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Jerri Vela Wilbanks; sons, Kristoffer Wilbanks, and Jared Wilbanks and wife Lisa; step-sons, Marcos Vela and wife Veronica, and David Vela and wife Tracy; six grandchildren; and three nieces; and numerous other loving relatives and many friends. Tommy will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. A Celebration of Tommy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2012, Earthman Southwest Chapel, 12555 South Kirkwood, Stafford, TX 77477 with the Rev. Von Dawson, Officiating. The family suggests that in honor of Tommy; please wear your favorite tropical attire. The Celebration will continue with a reception to immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Houston Hospice, www.houston hospice.org, for their compassionate care.
