Robert Earl Trefny, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2014 after a short illness. Robert was born in the Weimar area on July 13, 1931 to Louis and Laura Weinken Trefny. He graduated from Weimar High School. Robert proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return, he moved to Houston and attended the University of Houston. He married Pauline Kaluza Trefny in 1956. He retired after forty years with General Motors – Auto Parts and continued working part time for Houston Hobby Auto Auction.
Robert was a charter member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and was an usher during Masses. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5678 where he served in many roles including serving as past Grand Knight. Robert was a member and past President of the Polka Lovers Klub. He was a director and charter member of Polka Lovers Club of Texas Museum – Hoelscher Haus.
Robert will be remembered as a faithful man of God, as a loving husband and father, as well as for his loyalty to his friends, for his service to others and his love of Polka dancing.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Evelyn Guenther and Lillian Farek and brother Milton Trefny. Robert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pauline, four daughters and their spouses, Susan and John Clark, Kerry and Donald Drabek, Kristy and Peter Beins, Nicole and John Wood. His grandchildren and great grandchildren, Billie and Glen Smith and their daughter Faith, Kimberley and Jimmy Walker and their children Dean and Hannah, Andrea and Colby Guice and their sons Colten and Ashton, Erin and Jeffrey Spoor, Michael Drabek, Robert and Laura Wade, Amanda Wade, Anna Beins, Ashley Wood and Delaney Wood. He is also survived by his sister Violet Hrachovy, brother and sister in-law Floyd and Carla Trefny, sister in-law Jean Trefny, brother in-law Eugene Farek, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 5:00 with a Rosary at 7:00 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at 10:00 at St. Francis de Sales with internment following at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery. Pallbearers are Robert Wade, Michael Drabek, Glen Smith, Jimmy Walker, Colby Guice and Jeffrey Spoor. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Maresh, Frank Fries, Willie Bohuslav, Dean Clark and all members of POLKofA.
The family would like to thank the medical staff of Memorial Hermann Heart and Vascular Hospital for their amazing care during his stay.
