On December 12, 2023, the world lost an incredible soul! Regina Lee Johnson, 80 years old of Sugar Land, Texas passed away peacefully in her sleep after a 5-year 8-month battle with Primary Progressive Aphasia. PPA is a rare demeaning and extremely heartbreaking neurodegenerative disease that has no cure.
Regina was a shining light to everyone she met. Nothing could stop her enduring commitment to GOD and her tremendous love for her family and friends. Her impeccable style, huge smile, jovial personality, perseverance for perfection and overall friendly nature will be missed forever. Often described as a selfless, giving and extremely supportive wife, mother and grandmother, Regina’s devotion to everything she did can be attributed to her faith. What a true servant of the LORD.
Adopted in 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Regina grew up in Port Arthur, Texas. There she met and married Searcy Johnson, Jr. in 1962 and gave birth to her first child, Stacey Ann in 1963 and then had a son in 1971, Todd Michael. Shortly after Michael was born the family relocated to Houston, Texas. Regina is preceded in death by her parents Regis and Beatrice Hough. She is survived by her husband, Searcy Johnson, Jr., her two children, Stacey Dreyer and Michael Johnson, daughter-in-law Jodi Johnson, seven grandchildren, Courtney (Trey) Knopp, Trevor Hays, Hunter Hays, Ashley Hays, Zach Hays, Dawson Hays, Kaylee Dreyer and one great-grandchild Charlee Justina Knopp.
In addition to her love of family, Regina was a very savvy businesswoman. She worked for Dupont in Beaumont Texas, UtoteM and Fairmont Foods in Houston Texas, owned and operated a very successful Hallmark store in Coppell, Texas and obtained her real estate license to sell homes for Re/Max DFW Associates also in Coppell. She was extremely active as a volunteer and served on several boards in the development and advancement of the community in Coppell. Although recognition was not something she was looking for, she was named the “Woman of the Year” in the City of Coppell and also earned the prestigious “Excellence in Customer Service” award from Re/Max DFW Associates.
Regina will forever be a special angel sitting at the right hand of the LORD. A mass will be held on Friday, January 5 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd in Sugar Land.
The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to HARC (Houston Aphasia Recovery Center) in honor of Regina.
