Peter Carl Cangelosi was the third of four children, the long awaited boy after two girls. In Italian families it is all about having an heir to carry on the family name. My father Pete and my Uncle Tony owned a strange combination store, one half grocery run by Uncle Tony and one half furniture run by my father. It sat in the middle of downtown Stafford and all of us grew up at the store. Peter helped my father deliver furniture and a favorite story is that Peter was driving a mattress delivery into town and threw a cigarette out the window catching the mattress on fire in the bed of the truck. It took a long time for him to live that one down. Peter loved all animals but especially dogs and horses. He was never long without a dog, his last being his faithful friend Willow. He enjoyed horseback riding and was a true cowboy at heart. His boots were always on his feet even after he only had one left due to amputation. He wore cowboy hats, straw for the spring and summer and felt for the winter. Peter had a career in landscape architecture and he became involved in the earliest organic gardening movement. He sold organic products such as soil and non-chemical products to control pests. He lectured at various garden clubs and conferences and had a call in radio talk show. He loved the land and was an environmentalist even before it was cool.Peter also served our country in the Texas Air Force National Guard. He loved his family, his wife Dannee who died in 2017. He was never quite the same without her. He was very proud of his daughter Tammy and his grandson Tre. He bragged about Tre every chance he got and was so proud of his naval career and how bright Tre is. His sisters are Marie Valentine, JoAnn Hargrove and Mary Harrison. Peter lived with Mary and her son Cody for the last two years of his life. Peter was a staunch Democrat, loved politics and was addicted to MSNBC. He loved to read mainly science fiction novels and history books. His favorite channel was the History Channel. Peter was very friendly. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and he quickly made friends with people he had just met. He was one of a kind and will be greatly missed.
