Nora Guerra Vastakis passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024, after a long battle with diabetes. Nora was born in Houston, Texas on October 16, 1965, to Hector and Paulita Guerra, the fifth of seven siblings.
In 1993, Nora married her beloved husband, Christos Vastakis. They settled in Fresno, Texas where they raised their two daughters, Jodie and Maria. She was a devoted mother, always supporting her daughters in all their extracurricular activities. Her home was always open to family and friends, ready and willing to help in any way that she could. She loved entertaining and was the definition of a perfect hostess.
She was creative and enjoyed crafting with her sisters and friends throughout her life. She loved capturing memories through pictures which she later used to make beautiful Creative Memories scrapbooks. Nora and her sisters would attend scrapbook retreats to work on their books which preserved the precious memories.
Traveling was a passion, and she was able to visit Greece, Mexico, Canada, and other states around the US with her family and friends throughout the years. She looked forward to family events such as the Frio River trip and the Leal family reunion that would occur every year.
Nora cared for both her father and mother when they fell ill. She loved her parents deeply and helped them through their last years. Although Nora was faced with the hardships of being a caretaker, she always had a smile on her face that would light up a room.
Holidays and traditions were very important to Nora, and she loved making tamales and traditional Mexican Christmas cookies such as Pan De Polvo and Dedos De Novia. She would recruit her daughters, sisters, and other family members to help keep these traditions alive.
Nora was the perfect mother, wife, sister, and aunt. She leaves behind her husband Christos Vastakis; daughters Jodie Quintanilla and Maria Vastakis; brothers David Guerra wife Lisa and Jose Guerra wife Tammy; and sister Leticia Guerra Garcia. She is preceded in death by her father Hector Guerra; Mother Paulita Guerra; brother Hector Javier Guerra; and sisters Elizabeth Alvarez and Lydia Guerra. We are left with wonderful memories and stories of Nora Guerra Vastakis. We are all blessed to have had her in our lives.
